Licensing Act

In order to undertake certain activities, it is necessary to obtain some form of authorisation from the local Council. There are a number of exemptions and in order to check that you are legal, it is sensible to obtain professional legal advice.

The licensable activities are :

Supply of alcohol
Supply of hot food and drink after 11pm
Provision of plays
Provision of films
Provision of live music
Provision of recorded music
Indoor sports, including boxing and wrestling
Provision of a performance of a dance
Provision of facilities for dancing
Provision of facilities for making music

Our licensing solicitors have considerable experience of making Licensing Act applications and representing clients on hearings, reviews and appeals.

In relation to applications, we can undertake practically all of the application process for you, including;

  • Preparing the application form, especially the Operating Schedule
  • Submitting the application to the Police, Fire, Trading Standards and other responsible authorities
  • Preparing the Site Notice
  • Preparing and placing the newspaper advertisement
  • Negotiating with anyone who objects to the application
  • Representing you on a hearing, if one is needed
  • Holding the original of any issued licence for safekeeping
  • Providing a certified copy of the licence for display

To go that one step further, we can also provide clients with useful free information and training materials on issues such as alcohol sales
