There are numerous restrictions on the use of children in performances, depending on whether they are recorded for broadcast or live.

  • Take part in a performance or rehearsal that lasts for less than 3 1/2 hours
  • Only take part in a performance or rehearsal for up to 2 1/2 hours
  • Rehearse/perform for a maximum of 6 consecutive days
  • take part in one performance on a school day

For those under 13 years of age, the child must not be present at a performance or rehearsal after 10:00pm, but for those 13 and over the restriction is 10.30pm.

Where a child is paid or performs on more than three days in a six month period, a licence may be required unless there is an exemption, such as for a performance organised by a school.  The application process takes 21 days.
