PERSONAL LICENCES
Where alcohol is to be sold under a premises licence, there must be at least one personal licence holder. Alcohol can only be sold legally by a personal licence holder or someone authorised by them. Whilst an authorisation can either be verbal or in writing, we recommend that anyone who is authorised to sell alcohol should have some documentary evidence. We can supply a suitable authorisation certificate if requested.
The Designated Premises Supervisor
A personal licence holder must be designated as the 'premises supervisor', with particular responsibility for the day-to-day management of the premises. This is a responsible role and the idea is that this person is the first line of contact with enforcement officers who may visit. There is no need for the DPS to be at the premises all of the time but we suggest that there should be regular visits to ensure that everything is as it should be.
Applying for a licence
In order to apply for a personal licence, it is necessary to obtain a criminal records check and an approved training certificate. We can assist by guiding you through the process, arranging training and the records check or by dealing with everything from start to finish.
